With that in mind, we decided it would be helpful if we got together and compiled our top recommendations for eating out in Cambridge.
Sue: Bills, 34-35 Green Street, Cambridge.
I absolutely love having breakfast here. There is such great variety of breakfast options – the pancakes are heavenly and if I feel like something a little different then I go for Bill’s Summer Omelette, with kale, endamame beans, lemon feta, smokey tomatoes and an incredible salsa – delicious! It’s also got a very stylish but laid back feel. Bill’s is a chain but it’s a great one, and it’s a brilliant place to start your day in Cambridge!
Hollie: Varsity Restaurant, 35 St Andrews Street, Cambridge
Cambridge’s oldest restaurant, this is perfect for a special dinner. Set within a beautiful listed building located in the heart of the city, the restaurant is sleek and elegant. And it boasts a superb menu of modern cuisine, cooked using only the very best seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. I can’t recommend what to order as the menu is refreshed based on the seasons, which is why it is fresh and exciting every time you go.
Steve – Sticks ‘n’ Sushi, 2 Wheeler Street, Cambridge
This is a small successful London chain that has branched out into Cambridge – the only city outside of the capital to boast one of these! This is an absolutely brilliant place for larger groups. It offers amazing sushi platers in a relaxed environment. This is another restaurant in beautiful listed building, this was the Old Reading Room and is in the heart of the city near the University and the high street. You can also order takeaway delivery, and even enjoy their sushi on a punting tour!
Nelio – Browns, 23 Trumptinton Street, Cambridge
This is another restaurant in a lovely old building – we are truly blessed to have so many in Cambridge. This is in a converted wing of the old Addenbrooke’s Hospital, with Virginia Creepers around the entrance and a beautiful outdoor terrace area. As someone who is not from the UK (I am Portuguese) I can hand-on heart say this is great for traditional British food! It has a laid back atmosphere with a great menu which caters for all, I often bring my family here. Plus they do a mean cocktail if you manage to get a babysitter and make an evening of it!
Callum – Cau, 15 Bene’t Street, Cambridge
If you like steak this is hands down the best in the city. This places kicks it back true Argentinian style, giving you a taste of South America. You can get other things here like seafood and chicken, which are delicious too, but for me it’s all about the steak, plus they are really well priced. I also really like the quirky interior, it truly captures the spirit of Buenos Aires!
Lucas – Byrons, 12 Bridge Street, Cambridge
In my humble opinion, this place does the best burgers in Cambridge! Absolutely delicious, they do a wide variety of burger and side options, including the ‘mini Byron’ for kids. It’s set in among the shops and markets in the city centre, which means a window seat makes for perfect people watching!
Becky – Pho, 1 Wheeler Street, Cambridge
This is the perfect place for lunch. Just off market square, next to the Corn Exchange it’s in the middle of the action and does fantastic fresh and authentic Vietnamese food at great prices. The interior décor is a sight to behold, containing a labyrinth of rooms with bright wall art. It’s a lovely laid back, casual dining experience!
