Schools Out For Summer
This summer the British Isles have been blessed with weather the Algarve would be envious of, which makes it a lot easier to entertain the kids over the summer holidays and enjoy the great outdoors. And Cambridge and the local area certainly have plenty to offer. From days out to holiday camps, we’ve compiled our top five guide for what’s on in Cambridge this summer.
Outdoor cinema
Pack a picnic and enjoy some great family films al fresco at the National Trust’s Wimpole Estate. They have a fantastic selection of films to choose from including Disney’s Moana, The Last Jedi and The Greatest Showman.
Make a splash
The brand new Cambridge Aqua Park is a must for kids this summer. Based on farmland in the fens, enjoy a ‘Total Wipeout’ style inflatable course on a beautiful lake. During the summer holidays it’s open from 10am to 6pm every day. Juxtapose the new with the old, with the classic art deco lido in Jesus Green in the heart of Cambridge – a great place to take the kids for a swim when the sun is shining.
Bright ideas
The newly opened Cambridge Science Centre in Clifton Road is a wonderful place to spark their imaginations. They have a range of brand new, hands-on science exhibitions to make science fun – including the not to be missed wind tunnel. Plus it’s only £4 for adults, £3 for children age 3-18 and free for under 3s.
Go wild
Get back to nature at the Wicken Fen Nature Reserve. Go cycling off the beaten track, try out their wild campsite, go boating or even find the secret Geocaches hidden on the nature reserve. There’s plenty of wildlife to discover as well from mini beasts to birds.
While you work
For working parents the summer holidays can be a huge struggle. Thankfully Cambridge is bursting with holiday camps and clubs for kids – catering for all children and their individual passions. There’s everything from drama workshops to tennis camps and science camps and plenty for the more artistically minded and outdoor types. There’s even a Lego club at the Central Library!
